Obituary of Jonna S. Holden

Loving wife, adored mother, cherished grandmother, trusted friend, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2018 surrounded by her loving husband Gerald of 42 years, and her three sons and daughters-in-law, after a bravely fought battle with breast cancer.  Born in Minneapolis, MN on September 30, 1954, she was the oldest of five children to the late Reverend Frederick and Rosemary Greninger.  She is also predeceased by her father-in-law, Gerald Holden Sr.  Jonna is survived by her devoted husband, Gerry, and her sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren: Marc and Rachel of Ambler, PA; Chris and Cynthia of Oceanside CA with their children: Liam, Kian, and Audria; Ross of San Diego, CA;  mother-in-law: Margaret “Peg” Holden;  brothers and sisters: Ray Greninger, Helene Greninger, Pam (Rob) Woodson, Howard Greninger; sisters-in-law: Kathy (Robert) Sills, Anne (Ron) Squires, Karen (David) Richards; and brother-in-law: Doug (Jean) Holden.  She will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, very dear neighbors, friends and her furry friends, Bella and Chanel.  Jonna retired from Wallin Insurance Agency.  Jonna’s spirit could be seen in her love of music, fashion, and design.  From the amazing Halloween costumes she made for her three boys as they were growing up to the beautiful flowers planted with care around her home.  She loved the holidays and the decorating along with baking her famous brownies and Bishop’s Bread.  Throughout her illness Jonna never complained and somehow found a way to think of others near and far through her thoughtful cards, e-mails, and phone calls.  By simply being herself, she was an inspiration to countless others who also were fighting the battle of breast cancer. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Thursday, July 12, 2018 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 7:30 p.m. with Pastor Leanne Zeck.  Those wishing may remember Jonna with a donation to Susan G.
