Obituary of Thomas F. J. McGill

Age 89, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2017 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Tom was born March 1, 1928, in Elmira, the eldest child of Thomas and Helen (O'Herron) McGill. He is predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law John Paul and Justine McGill, and sister and brothers-in-law Margaret and Thomas Zukas, Donald J. Savage, Sr. Tom is survived by his sister Jacqueline M. Savage of Berkeley Heights NJ; brother and sister-in-law Richard "Dick" and Helen McGill of Elmira; nieces and nephews, Joe (Suzanne) Savage of Bethlehem PA, Donald J. "DJ" (Priti) Savage of Berkeley Heights NY; Mary Ann (Gary) Kull of Summit NJ; Timothy (Janet) Zukas of Burnt Hills NY, Thomas Zukas, Michael (Nan) McGill of Cypress CA, Kathleen McGill of Trenton MO, Susan (Joe) Bley of Delafield, WI, Stephen (Keelyn) McGill of Oceanside CA, Kevin (Lisa) McGill of Elmira, Shannon McGill of Macon GA, Andrew McGill of Henderson KY, Terrance (Peggy) McGill of Murrieta CA, Brenda (Sean) Collins of Fayetteville AK, Elizabeth McGill of Dunmore PA; along with numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. Tom was a graduate of St. Anthony's High School in Syracuse NY, continuing his education at LeMoyne College where he was part of the first graduating class in 1951. Like his brothers, Tom was a U S Marine Corps veteran, serving during the Korean War. He lived in Washington D.C. for many years prior to moving to Elmira. In Washington he was employed by the National Gallery of Art for over 55 years. Tom was a communicant of Queen of Apostle's Catholic Church in Alexandria VA and St. Casimir's in Elmira. Family and friends are invited to St. Casimir's Church, 1004 Davis Street, Elmira, on Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Tom's Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 noon. Interment, with committal prayers and military honors, will then take place at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery.
