Obituary of Karen M. Batrowny

Age 57 passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, June 16, 2017 after complications from Lyme disease. Karen was born in Elmira, a daughter of Betty Mulliken Miller of Elmira and the late Richard Miller. She was also predeceased by sister-in-law Kathy Miller. In addition to her mother Karen is survived by her husband of 32 years William M. Batrowny; sons, Matthew Batrowny of Aurora CO and Brian Batrowny of Elmira; step-son James Batrowny of Elmira; sisters and their spouses, Mary Ellen and Joseph Allegretto, Kathy and Kevin Wolfe, Judy and Fred Loomis, all of Elmira, Susan Miller and Maria McLaughlin of Garner NC: brothers and sister-in-law, Richard Miller, David and Barb Miller; father-in-law and mother-in-law George and Betty Batrowny; sister-in-law Donna Ferris; former brother-in-law and family friend Thomas Ferris, all of Elmira; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends. Karen was a 1977 graduate of Elmira Free Academy. She was a lifelong communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Karen coached cheerleading for many years at Our Lady of Lourdes School. She worked for the parish in many capacities for nearly 25 years with her last positon being the parish Business Manager. Karen was a lover of all animals, especially dogs. She was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend and caretaker. Karen had a big heart, always caring for others and putting their needs ahead of her own. She will be forever loved and missed. Family and friends are invited to call at McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held there on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. followed by burial at Bath National Cemetery.
