Obituary of Patricia K. Shields

Pat lived a vibrant healthy life for 74 years until a sudden stroke took her from her family and friends on Friday, June 9, 2017. Pat was born in Elmira on July 11, 1942, a daughter of the late Robert E. and Dorothy (Jones) Kane. Pat was predeceased by her loving husband of 48 years Robert P. Shields. Together they raised five children: Ellen S. Piasecki and husband Joseph of Myrtle Beach SC with children, Nick and Emily Samuels and Olivia Piasecki; Martin A. Shields of Columbia SC with children, Jarrett (Lindsay) and Amber Shields; Kristin M. Osburn and husband Edward of Elmira with children, Casey, Eddie and Allison Osburn; Joseph P. Shields and wife Lauren of San Diego CA with children, Hudson and Summer; Bridget S. Nugent and husband Neil of Elmira with children, Joseph, Luke and Ellie Nugent; great grandchildren Emery and Teagan Shields; siblings with their spouses, John and Ellie Kane of South Miami FL, Mary Ellen and Norm Guthrie of Lakeland FL, Joseph and MaryAnne Kane of Waverly NY; cousin and special friend Karen Kurcoba with husband Bob of Elmira; nephew Terry Monahan of Elmira; best friends, John and Marilyn Scheepsma, Joyce Murray, Alice and Marty Cain all of Elmira; as well as close friends of the grandchildren, Kaitlin MacDonald, Emily McCracken, Kennedy Van Brunt and Demery Weeks. Pat was a life-long communicant of St. Casimir's Church and Blessed Sacrament Parish. She was a 1960 graduate of Notre Dame High School. While raising her five children, she made her career at Chemung Canal Trust Company where she started as a teller working her way to Assistant Vice-President of Deposit Operations. Upon retirement she was able to travel, laugh, and make lasting memories with her husband Bob before his passing in 2011. Pat was known for her abundant energy and never ending talent in painting and decorating her beautiful home on Webber Place which she transformed over the past 54 years. Pat will always be remembered as a dynamic, strong woman whose care and generosity will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home on Monday, June 12, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held there on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church. Committal prayers will take place at Woodlawn National Cemetery on Wednesday, June 14, 2017.
