Obituary of Daniel G. McCann

"Dan the Man McCann" Age 61, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 1, 2017, after a short battle with cancer. Dan was born in Elmira NY, son of the late Francis C. and Mary (Wheeler) McCann. He is survived by son Cullen D. McCann with his son Adrian; daughters, Maureen C. McCann with her children Joseph Schuler IV and Anna Schuler; Megan I. McCann with her daughter Isla Drake; friend and former wife Susan Eldridge; sisters and brothers-in-law, Laura and Lee Cornish, Theresa and Ted Johnston all of Elmira, Ellen and Russell Decker of Painted Post; longtime friends, Joe Magno, Stan Bobkowski and Tony Dowd; several nieces and nephews; and loving canine companion Katie. Dan was a 1974 graduate of Southside High School. He was a steel fabricator at I. D. Booth for 23 years. Dan was an avid outdoorsman who loved to golf, hunt and fish. He could be found on the Mark Twain Golf Course 7 days a week. For over 20 years Dan and his family would camp at Smith Park on Seneca Lake. He was a very humble and grateful person who had a kind and loving spirit for everyone he knew. Dan's greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St. Elmira, on Thursday, January 5, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m. Those wishing may remember Dan with a donation to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, P O Box 1000, Dept 142, Memphis TN 38101-9908.
