Obituary of Jean Marie Ervin
Please share a memory of Jean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ervin, Jean Marie (Augustine)
Of Gaithersburg, MD passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the age of 71.
Jean was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was absolutely devoted to her family and loved spending time with and doing things for them. She was always happiest when her family was all together. Every year she would look forward to holidays (especially Christmas), summers on Keuka Lake, cousin's week at the lake, cooking for her family and spending time with them. No matter what, her thoughts were all about her family.
Jean was born in Elmira, NY to Joseph and Valeria (Prydryga) Augustine on March 3, 1945. She grew up in Elmira just a few blocks from her future husband, John. Jean and John met during grammar school at the Center Street pool. They were classmates at Notre Dame High School where they graduated in 1963. On September 3, 1966 Jean and John were married in Elmira at St. Casimir's Church.
Jean and John started their family and moved to Rochester in 1967. She was devoted to her husband and was always there for her kids when they were growing up whether she was herding them around or hosting when all the neighborhood kids came over. In 1977 the family moved to Gaithersburg, MD where they have lived in the same house ever since. As her children grew, married and had children of their own, Jean became the most loving grandmother anyone could ever want.
Jean is survived by her loving husband of just short of 50 years, John J. Ervin of Gaithersburg, MD; children and daughters-in-law Stephen & Kathleen Ervin of Potomac, MD; David & Jeannie Ervin of Olney, MD and Kristin McGervey of Olney, MD. Her eight grandchildren; Kelly, Matthew, John, Christopher, Joseph, Melissa, Scott and Kevin, lovingly know her as Grammy. She is also survived by her brother Robert Augustine of Elmira, NY. Jean is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Valeria Augustine.
A funeral mass will be held near Keuka Lake at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bradford, NY on July 22nd at 1PM. A celebration of her life will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to Notre Dame High School 1400 Maple Ave Elmira, NY 14904 or to Georgetown University's Cancer Center.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to everyone who has touched her, especially during her recent illness. While she is no longer with us on this earth we know she is in Heaven.
