With a loving but heavy heart I think of my big sister, Peg. Although our age difference and geography did not allow us to grow up together, she still had a wonderful impact on my life. Peg was always the "cool' one. Her successful career, interesting hobbies that included a pilot's license, world travel and of course, her outstanding artistic abilities. Peg was also able to create a beautiful picture with words. She did this for me as she described a 'colorful' image of life on our farm. She relayed a very positive image of our family and memories that I was too young to fully remember or appreciate. I am proud and grateful to be her "baby sister".

From the day she hired me at the paper forty-two years ago to last week at her death bed, Peg was my hero. She inspired me, not only in advertising and business meeting cartooning, but how to navigate life with joy...from barhopping to photography, playing and coaching softball, surviving personal crises to exploring the outdoors, Peg got me into and out of trouble often and taught me creative expressions that I still use today. I will miss my greatest mentor always.

It is with deep sorrow to hear of my cousin Peggy's passing. I loved her dearly. I remember many wonderful Thanksgiving dinners at grandma Gelder's home with all my relatives. Peggy lived on a farm just outside of Horseheads and in the summer, my brother and I would spend a couple weeks there. What fun we had playing in the barn, riding the pony, building forts in the woods and swimming in the creek at the base of the hill. Peggy showed me the very first "walking stick" i'd ever seen. At evening time we would set out on the lawn and watch the sun go down. I remember how heavy the bales of hay seemed to me as we pitched 'em to her dad on the wagon. When she went off to art school in Boston, my dad drove us up there to watch the Red Sox play the Yankees. Peggy got us tickets in right field... right behind her secret crush Tony Conigliaro. Peggy could draw anything and everything. I was glad when she got a job with the Elmira Star Gazzette. She was my mentor and hero. She inspired me love to paint and draw. She met me at the airport when I came back from Viet Nam and drove me home in her Opel GT. Seems like she was always driving something cool. I loved her. I'm glad she is in a better place. She will be missed.
