O'HERRON, Daniel Joseph "Joe"
Age 88, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, Saturday February 7, 2015 at Bethany Manor. Joe was a son of David A. and Florence McLaughlin O'Herron. He is predeceased by sisters, Frances, Agnes and Helen O'Herron and brother David O'Herron. Joe is survived by his wife of 65 years Girolama Palmieri O'Herron; children, and their families, Daniel J. and Connie O'Herron of Horseheads with children Marc, Amy (fiancée James Hogan), Kate O'Herron and Andrea (Justin) Mosher; Mark A. and Karna O'Herron of Elmira with daughter Kacey (Eric) Gergel; John M. and Diane O'Herron of Elmira with children J. Michael (Dina) O'Herron, Laura (Chris Ellis) O'Herron, Christine (Scott McGuire) O'Herron; Mary and Michael McFarland of Horseheads with son Patrick; Kathleen O. and Larry Lawrence of Horseheads with daughters, Leeann and Caitlin Lawrence; Geroma and Charles Reed of Huntington Beach CA with daughter Jennie; Betsy and Scott Tolbert of Pine City with children Colin, Madelyn and Alison Tolbert; 5 great grandchildren with a 6th on the way; sisters-in-law Kathryn O'Herron of Elmira, Erminia Hoeppel of Evans GA and Catherine Palmieri of York PA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Joe enlisted in U S Navy at the age of 17 and served in the South Pacific as a signalman at the invasion of Okinawa. Joe met his wife at Mike Palmieri's Pioneer Restaurant where she was a waitress and he was a bartender. Joe had a 41 year railroad career and retired from Conrail as a conductor. Family and his Catholic faith were the driving forces in his life. He was a lifelong communicant of St. Mary's Church. Joe, along with Girolama, was active with the Adoration Chapel at St. Casimir's Church. He liked to putter and build things. Joe's generous spirit welcomed everyone into his home at any time, summers, holidays, whenever. He was a long time member of the John J. Lee Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held there on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. Committal prayers and interment, with military honors, will follow at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery. The O'Herron family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of Bethany Manor for the wonderful care they provided to Joe over the last several weeks. Officers and members of the Ancient Order of Hibernians will meet at the McInerny Funeral Home on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. to conduct a service for our brother Joe. Signed, Jim Palmer, President
