Big Flats: passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2014, his 81st birthday, at St. Joseph's Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility. Myron was born October 8, 1933, in Elmira, the son of Joseph and Pauline (Salinska) Sozanski. He is predeceased by his wife Eleanor J. Sozanski; son Matthew B. Sozanski; brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter and Barbara Sozanski, Stephen and MaryLou Sozanski; sister and brother-in-law Vera and William Munder. Myron is survived by his daughter Evelyn A. Ziegenhagen of Elmira, and her children, Noah, Jacquelyn and Zachary; son and daughter-in-law Mark R. and Jane M. Sozanski of Big Flats and their sons, Chad and Aaron; along with several nieces and nephews. Myron was a veteran of the U S Air Force serving during the Korean War. While in the Air Force he attended Radio Repair Technician School and was stationed for two years in Japan. Myron retired from NYSEG after 38 years of service. Most of those years spent as an Electric Meter Tester. He was a long time member of the Golden Glow Volunteer Fire Department, Big Flats American Legion, Skinner Ernest Post #1612, and until recently was a Fire Commissioner for the Town of Big Flats, Fire District #2. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Friday, October 10, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. The Golden Glow Fire Department will conduct a service for Myron at 6:45 p.m. Interment, with military honors, will take place on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Rural Home Cemetery, Big Flats NY. Those wishing may remember Myron with a donation to St. Joseph's Hospital, Skilled Nursing Unit, 555 St. Joseph's Boulevard, Elmira NY 14901.
