Obituary of Frances V. Richmond

Elmira: Age 90, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2014. Fran was born March 25, 1924 in Morris PA, a daughter of Ludwig and Marianna (Sherant) Augustine. She is predeceased by her husband of 32 years Donald L. Richmond, brothers, Albert, John, Andrew and Edward Augustine, sisters and brothers-in-law, Clara Rosblock, Viola and Walter Pavlawk, Bernice Augustine, George Konkle, Tom Cregan, Nick Tengredi, son-in-law Ted Ives, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Cecil and Dorothy Richmond, and nephew Philip Richmond. Fran is survived by her children, Lester D. Richmond and wife Sally of Cortland NY, Donna L. Richmond, Dianna L. Ives, both of Rochester, Mary F. Richmond of Elmira, sisters and brothers-in-law, Stella Konkle of Fredericksburg VA, Ann Cregan of Rochester, Louise and Robert O'Dell of Seabrook Island SC, Teri Tengredi of Albany NY, Joe Rosblock of New Jersey, ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A hard worker all her life Fran's first job when she moved to Elmira at the age of 16 was a domestic helper for a family. In her later years she worked at Remington Rand and Eclipse. Going out on a blind date Fran met the man of her dreams Don Richmond and they married in 1944. She was a stay at home mom while her husband played professional baseball. After Don finished his baseball career Fran was part of her husband's pit crew at his drag races. A woman of many talents Fran was a master gardener, incredible cook, baker and seamstress. Family was very important to her. Fran took care of her mother and sister-in-law, in her home, in their later years. A devout Catholic, Fran prayed a daily rosary, was a 60 year communicant of St. Mary's Southside, and a member of the Rosary and Altar Society. She and Don were benefactors for St. Ambrose Church in Rochester and Our Lady of Lourdes in Elmira. Fran was also a member of the Ladies of Charity, St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary and a Brownie Troop Leader. Fran was a beautiful, well dressed, funny, compassionate, athletic and honest woman. She endured severe dementia during her last 20 years, but was able to stay in her home due to the loving care of her family. Fran is now so happy to be with her family in Jesus. "Better than great job, mom". Family and friends are invited to Fran's Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, May 19, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Church, Elmira. Interment, with committal prayers, will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery.
