Obituary of Anthony J. Manzo

Elmira: Age 90, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014. Tony was born March 3, 1924, the son of Marco and Pauline (Ingiani) Manzo. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 66 years Audrey (Berwick) Manzo whom he married on June 22, 1946 at St. Mary's Church, Elmira. He is also predeceased by one brother and four sisters. Tony is survived by his children, Kathleen A. Piazza and husband Donald of Jamestown NY, Marilyn M. Cary and husband Dwight "Curley" of Austin TX, Angela M. Deats of Austin TX, Anthony J. "Nino" Manzo, Jr. of Elmira and Mary Jo Cerqua and husband Frank of Baldwinsville NY, sister Esther Hetherton of Myrtle Beach SC, sister-in-law Phyllis E. Cady of Pine City, seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, with another due any day, and one great-great-grandson, along with several nieces and nephews. Tony was a U S Army veteran serving with the 550th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Division. For 31 years he worked out of the Elmira area as a sales representative selling P&R pasta, a division of Hershey Corporation. An avid golfer he was a long time member of the Mark Twain Golf Course. Tony was a member of the Elmira Heights American Legion and a long time communicant of St. Anthony's Church, now Blessed Sacrament Parish. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Sunday, May 18, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tony's Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 19, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, Elmira. Interment, with committal prayers and military honors, will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Tony's family extends their sincere thanks to his caregivers for the past two years, Roxanne, LuAnn, Shelva, Dianna and Deanna.
