DeLANEY, Sara M. "Sally"
Age 91, of Elmira, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center Skilled Nursing Facility. Mrs. DeLaney was born in Elmira on February 12, 1919, a daughter of Charles J. and Anna (McNevin) McCarthy. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas B. DeLaney on August 22, 1990. Mrs. DeLaney is survived her children with their spouses, John M. and Elizabeth DeLaney of Syracuse, Thomas C. DeLaney of Elmira, M. Eileen and John Clarke of Liverpool NY, Sally and Paul Goldberg of Delmar NY, Ann and Brian Deacon of Fayetteville NY, James R. and Kathleen DeLaney of Elmira, W. Paul and Micki DeLaney of Festus MO, D. Justin and Joan DeLaney of Elmira, Margaret and Peter Radez of Horseheads, Joseph P. and Cindy DeLaney of Cortland NY. She is also survived by her sister Eleanor Flynn of Elmira; 28 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of Water and Walnut Sts., on Friday, April 30, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held there on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Donations in Sally's memory may be directed to Catholic Charities, 215 E. Church St. Elmira NY 14901. Mrs. DeLaney was a graduate of St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing and a former member of the Elmira City School District School Board. She was proud of her Irish heritage and deeply devoted to her family and her Catholic faith. Her funeral mass on Saturday will be on the 65th anniversary of her marriage to Tom in the same church.
Members of St. Joseph's School of Nursing Alumni will meet at St. Patrick's Church on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. to form an honor guard for Sally DeLaney.
