Dorothy U. Richmond
After an incredible 91 years on Earth, Dorothy Richmond has left us for her place in Heaven. She was blessed to have lived a very fulfilling life as a beautiful, sweet, and insightful woman of strong faith and family values. This remarkable lady was and will continue to be the foundation that so many of her family have built upon to discover happiness and success. She will be missed deeply and remembered daily, especially for her appreciation of simple beauty and the sacred wisdom she had accumulated and shared.
Dorothy was always interested in stories and hearing about other people's adventures, so now it is her turn to embark on a whole new adventure that only those of us left behind can imagine. As she enters Heaven, she will be re-united with her husband, Cecil, whom she was faithful to all the way to the end after thirty-seven years apart, and she will also be reconnected with her beloved son, Phil. So, as one memorable and celebrated journey comes to an end, a new one begins, and in the words of Dorothy just a few weeks ago, "If I could do it all over again, I would."
Dorothy was born April 5, 1919, in Elmira, a daughter of Wilfred and Elizabeth (Kelly) Underwood. She is predeceased by her husband Cecil, son Philip, sister Elizabeth, brothers, Jack and George. Dorothy is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Lorraine Richmond of Silver City, NV, Gary and Sandy Richmond of Palm Beach, FL, Bobby Richmond of Elmira, and Jacquelyn Emmick Richmond of Horseheads; grandchildren, Paul (Stacy) Richmond, Carrie (Jeremy) Hooey, Krissy (Pete) Ruhmel, Beth Lynn (Jonathan) Dillon-Moore, John (Christina) Richmond, Aaron (Brandi) Richmond, Samantha Richmond, and Tony Richmond; along with several great-grandchildren. Dorothy was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing golf until a few years ago. She was a long time volunteer at St. Joseph's Hospital and a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Friends are invited to a prayer service at McInerny Funeral Home, corner of Water and Walnut Sts., on Monday, August 16, 2010 at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Interment will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Those wishing may remember Dorothy with a donation to either, St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation, 555 St. Joseph's Blvd, Elmira, NY 14901 or Christ the Redeemer Parish, 304 Demarest Parkway, Elmira, NY 14905
