Obituary of Barbara R. Nail

Passed away on December 25, 2024, at Bethany Nursing Home.  Pre-deceased by her parents:  Willard and Violet (Wilson) Roff, loving husband Bruce A. Nail, infant son John Thomas, and her five brothers and sisters.  Barbara worked at the Holding Point, Elmira Correctional Facility and Elmira Psychiatric Center, until her retirement in 1983.

Barbara and Bruce retired in 1983, both enjoying golf at the Corning Country Club for over 36 years.  Her other interests included bridge, bowling, making strawberry jam, and volunteering at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center.  She was a long-time member of the Horseheads Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Deacon, and enjoyed baking for their many activities.

Surviving are her two children, James (Deborah) Nail, North Rose NY, Nancy Nail Lyke, Clifton Springs NY, granddaughter Sherry (Kevin) Mount, Revenel SC, grandsons, James (Tracy) Nail, Fairport NY, Adam Nail, Van Nuys CA, Charles (Vanessa) Caswell, Mansfield PA, special great-granddaughters, Brianna, Rachel, Samantha and Sara Mount, and daughter-in-law Sandra Nail.

Barbara’s family will welcome friends on Monday, January 13, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 2943 Westinghouse Road, Horseheads.  A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 a.m.  A private burial will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery, Horseheads.
