I only knew her as "Dr. Cain" - but she was the first eye doctor who made this type 1 diabetic feel truly calm during an eye exam. And that is no small feat, after decades of trepidation and paranoia! I left the area several years ago, but will always remember her as a trusted medical professional and genuinely kind human.

I share your grief in the loss of my niece. Ellen will always be in my thoughts and prayers. It was a privilege to have had her as a part of my life. She had a happiness and sense of maintaining relationships with her cousins and was always welcoming when we came to Elmira. I'm sorry her cousins and I were not able to be at her service, but Mother Nature sent us 5 feet of snow this week, and we are still digging out.

Ellen and I met in NYC in ‘87 for the start of optometry school at SUNY. We were two upstate NY girls in the big city and met at the dorms in Manhattan the first day moving in and became instant friends . There began the adventure and I would be fortunate to have many amazing times over the years with her in NYC and then Yonkers then later when we both ended up back home upstate . Ellen was a positive radiant light in this world , always smiling and laughing and doing some project amazingly well (making bread,gardening , quilting, knitting,cello,making kombucha….the list is endless). She really was a natural and good at everything she did (and taught me to sew and basic quilting ) and was very artistic and made and gave gifts to everyone . She was an amazing mother and her and John have a beautiful family together . Thankyou Ellen for your friendship and your example of how to live simply and with joy . I love you and will miss you and you are always a treasure in my heart . ❤️

Ellen was one of the first friends I’d made after moving here just three years ago, so I didn’t get the chance to know her as well or see her often as I wanted to. But one thing that I will always remember about her is the way her whole being lit up every time she talked about her kids. It was so heartwarming!
One of the last times I saw her, she repeated a quote to me that began, “The time to be happy is now” and she seemed to have taken that to heart, and even though her passing devastated me, I was so thankful for that.
I miss you, girlfriend, and will keep knitting in your memory for a very long time. ❤️

Dr . Cain was my Optometrist for years at Twin Tiers Eye Care. She was absolutely wonderful, always patient centered, creating an atmosphere of trust and genuine concern. I encountered an eye challenge that she efficiently and effectively referred for a successful outcome. I miss her greatly.
To her Family - Dr. Cain was a Light in this world. Her Light will never dim.

I was broken hearted to hear of Ellen passing. She was my eye doctor for many years,and her kindness and attention to detail was unrivaled. She treated everyone like a friend,and when she took a leave from work,I knew it was serious. May her beautiful soul soar high,she and her family remain in my prayers.
