Obituary of Janet Gordon Fagan
Janet “Punky” Fagan, Age 77, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on Monday, November 18, 2024, at Southern Maryland Medical Center. Born and raised in Elmira, New York, Janet was the second oldest of ten children to the late Robert F. “Buster” and Marion “Mimi” Howland Gordon. A 1965 graduate of Southside High School, she went on to earn her degree from SUNY Cortland in 1969, where she developed a lifelong passion for education. A dedicated and inspiring English teacher, Janet touched countless lives during her nearly 25-year career at Leonardtown Middle School, retiring in 2012. She was passionate about traveling, reading, and enjoying the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks near her home in Southern Maryland. Above all, she cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, and beloved dogs.
Janet was predeceased by her sisters, Sharon “Sherry” Grafius, Carol Gilboy, and Mary Gordon, as well as her brothers, Michael “Mickey” and Mark Gordon. She is survived by her sons, John Wales, Ryan Fagan, and Adam (Theresa Gallagher) Fagan; beloved grandchildren, Tony Gallagher, Cole, Kyle, and Claire Fagan; siblings, Robert “Bob” (Rose) Gordon , Nancy (Mark) Waggy, Diane “DiDi” Burchard, and Alan Scott Gordon. Janet is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and longtime friends, Laura Hazzard and Janice Cunningham.
Services for Janet will be held on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W Water Street, Elmira. Calling hours will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., followed by a 3:15 p.m. funeral service.
