Obituary of Herman E. Stevens

Age 95, passed away peacefully at Elcor Health Services on Friday, November 15, 2024.  Herman was born in Corning, the son of Frederick and Mae Stevens.  He was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Janet (Schulz) Stevens; sisters, Dorothy Grodsky, Vera Hogue and Betty White; daughter-in-law Diane Stevens; father-in-law and mother-in-law Paul and Margaret (Brown) Schultz; sister-in-law Julia Bressler.  Herman is survived by his sons with their families, Scott P. Stevens of Elmira; Thomas F. and Pamela Stevens of Dunnellon FL with daughter Paula Mae Teeter; Gary E. and Lisa Stevens of Lugoff SC with sons, Justin and Jared Stevens; Daniel W. and Darla Stevens of Plant City FL and his son Carter Stevens; great grandchildren, Bradlee, Aubree and Jaxsen Teeter; several nieces and nephews.

 

Herman was a graduate of Northside Blodgett High School in Corning where he played basketball and baseball.  He was a private in the US Army serving from 1951 – 1953 and stationed in Alabama.  Herman had worked as a car salesman for Carroll Motors in Corning before going to work as an accountant at Ingersoll-Rand in Painted Post from where he retired in 1992.  He had lived in Corning, Painted Post, Keuka Lake and most recently in West Elmira. 

 

Along with Janet and their family, Herman enjoyed summers at their Keuka Lake home for 30 years.  He was a big sports fan with the Boston Red Sox, Buffalo Bills, Boston Celtics, Syracuse University basketball and football as his favorite teams.  Herman also loved to watch golf on TV. His hobbies were playing golf, doing crossword puzzles, card games, researching his genealogy and watching Fox News. 

 

Per Herman’s wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral service.  He will be interred with Janet at the columbarium in Woodlawn National Cemetery.   A celebration of Herman’s life will be held in the spring of 2025.
