Obituary of Marlene E. Baiz
Marlene Baiz, 79, of Elmira/Horseheads, NY, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at her home, surrounded by love.
Marlene was a beautiful, sweet, kind, caring, accepting, loving person. Devoted wife of Tom, loving, adoring mom to her children, Christine and Mark, as well as her daughter-in-law Judy, and her grandchildren, Victoria, Billy and Suzie. She was a special sister to Kay and Marty (Angela), and sister-in-law to Mike and Sherry. Marlene was a 1962 graduate of SHS and went on to graduate from the Arnot Ogden School of Nursing.
She utilized her compassionate nursing skills in a variety of settings throughout her career, from schools to hospitals to family practice to Guthrie Clinic. Her co-workers adored her, and almost every patient who encountered her would walk away saying "She is the sweetest thing."
Marlene was loved because of her sincere, caring nature. She was considered a “best friend” by many, who could always count on her for an encouraging word, a helping hand, and happy times. Her entire life was one of loving and giving of herself. After retiring from nursing, she continued giving as a volunteer delivering Meals on Wheels and caring for others at Bampa’s House.
Marlene had many, many co-workers and friends who she also helped whenever needed.
She and Tom loved traveling all over the world with their friends. Her passion was painting. She discovered her talent mid-life and was a true artist. Again, giving her artwork to friends and family rather than selling them. Her other passions were reading, movies (even the bad ones), music, theater, and Chautauqua Institution. She loved the beauty of the flowers and cultural life there and was a guest for over 50 years.
We were honored to have this beautiful woman in our lives.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial for Marlene on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., St. Mary’s Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Hibernian Clubhouse 701 Kinyon Street, Elmira, from 12:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
