Obituary of Maureen E. Stachowski

Please share a memory of Maureen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Maureen E. Stachowski of Elmira departed this life on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Arnot Ogden Memorial Hospital at the age of 75.

Maureen was born on December 28, 1947, in Elmira to Helen M. Constantine. Both her mother and her brother-in-law, Jim Dolph, predecease her. She is survived by her children, Tessa Hile of Champaign, Illinois and Ben Stachowski of Elmira; grandchildren, Noah Patrick and Peyton Olivia Hile (who affectionately referred to her as Grandma New York) of Champaign, Illinois; siblings, Pat (John) DeMuth of Elmira, Peggi Dolph of Elmira, and Don (Kim) Constantine of Flagstaff, Arizona; her dear aunt, Mary Guinane of Elmira; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Maureen was a 1966 graduate of Notre Dame High School and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from D’Youville College in 1970. She worked at the Chemung County Health Department and, more recently, the Office for the Aging for over 30 years. Maureen was an avid reader and would sit on her porch reading for hours on end. When not reading, Maureen's most joyful moments included attending both her children’s events and the Guinane clan's weekly picnics and annual reunions.

Maureen will be laid to rest in a private graveside service. Donations in her memory can be made to the Steele Memorial Library, 101 E Church Street, Elmira NY 14901. The family extends its gratitude to all of the doctors, nurses and staff at the Falck Cancer Center and Arnot Ogden Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care of Maureen.
