Dr. William M. Kelly
Elmira: Age 89, died at his home, with his children by his side, on Tuesday, October 19, 2010. Dr. Kelly was born February 24, 1921, the son of William F. and Mary (Larkin) Kelly. He is predeceased by his wife Mary Hogan Kelly, sons, Paul G. and Joseph P. Kelly. Dr. Kelly is survived by his children, with their families, Dr. Michael W. and Sandra Kelly of Greenville, SC, and children, Bill, Mary, Susan, and Katie; William J. and Patricia Kelly of Elmira, and children, Alicia and Patrick; Mary K. Baker of Elmira, and daughters, Kelly, Tricia, and Mary Murphy; Thomas M. and Sharon Kelly of Wooster, OH, and children Logan and Mac; Martha K. and Joseph Salata of Shaker Heights, OH, and children, Jackie, Ted, and Joey; Joe's, wife JoEllen Kelly of Belmont, NC, and their children Shannon, Michael, and Will; Robert M. and Patricia Kelly of Elmira, and children, Kate, Patty Ann, and Erin; great-grandchildren, Kate, Ryan, Rahmi, Maggie and Burns; sister Catherine Marie Doty of Warwick, NY; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Paul and Margaret Hogan of Bath, NY; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Dr. Kelly received his undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto, St. Michael's College. He then attended medical school at Georgetown University, School of Medicine, Washington, D.C. Upon his graduation from Georgetown Dr. Kelly served in the U S Army. He had his private practice in Elmira for over 40 years, while at the same time having an affiliation with St. Joseph's Hospital. After retiring from his private practice Dr. Kelly continued his work at the VA Clinic in Sayre, PA, and then later at the Elmira Correctional Facility, working until July of 2010. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Elmira Council #229, John J. Lee Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the Chemung County Medical Society. A devout Catholic, Dr. Kelly was a life long communicant of St. Patrick's Church, where he attended mass daily. Throughout his life he had 3 devotions….family, faith, and medicine. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Sts., on Friday, October 22, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church. Interment, with committal prayers and military honors, will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dr. Kelly's memory may be directed to either, Holy Family Schools, 1012 Davis Street, Elmira, NY 14901, or Notre Dame High School, 1400 Maple Avenue, Elmira, NY 14904.
Officers and members of the AOH will meet at McInerny Funeral Home on Friday, October 22, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. to conduct a service for our brother, Dr. William Kelly.
