Rob McKinnon
Was by far, one of the best Chevrolet Dealers that I have ever contacted. I have been all over the Northeast and Southeast seaboard and contacted many Dealers, but when I contacted Rob, his desk was a total mess, and one day I asked him “ Why is you desk so cluttered? ( as he is using his paper desktop calculator with a rolling tape dispenser with his hand under a wad of paper and the paper moving as he uses the calculator. ) He said, “a messy desk is the sign of success “ I will never ever forget that as long as I live. Rob, Thank you for your knowledge of the business that you always shared with me, I have taken all of your words of wisdom with me in my 35 years with Chevrolet Motor Division. God speed Rob.

I will always remember that Rob was there when I graduated valedictorian from SUNY Cortland and he was so pleased for me. When people came up to congratulate him, they assumed he was my dad and he told me proudly that he didn't correct them.
Bergen especially remembers Rob's story about almost failing out of Colgate, but his cousin drove him up from Elmira to meet with the dean. They found a "D" that was really a "C" and he squeaked by.
Vivi loved his story about how his family had a dog named Rob, so everyone called him "Boy Rob" to differentiate them!

I remember with great fondness the number of years I served as a babysitter for the McKinnon family when they lived on Scott Avenue. I began babysitting for the family sometime in the 1960's when Megan was a baby, sat with Megan while Annie was being born, and a few years beyond that, but only had the pleasure of babysitting one time Mattew one time, as I left for college soon after his birth. As I recall I babysat with the children at least once a week, al for $.50 an hour, but I loved every minute of it.
The McKinnons' were very kind to me. As I only lived one block away, when they returned home, Rob would walk me down Scott Ave, until we were opposite my house, he would then watch me as I cut through back yards and made it safely into my house.
I would love to see Megan, Annie and Matthew again. Perhaps I can have a moment to say hello to them at Rob's service. I hope to be there!

The McKinnons and my family go back 75 years. Rob and I competed against each other in horse jumping events in the early 50's.
Later we shared lots of great times; golf; dinners; a great golf outing to England and Scotland. We had a great trip to Ithaca to see a play and of course he wanted me to drive. In a rush to get to an early dinner I rolled thru a stop sign in front of a young lady walking her dog. Well when she shouted "Nice stop d**khead" Rob nearly lost it. The story was told a million times and was embellished. Rob will be missed but he is in a better place. RIP.

I will always have very fond memories of Rob and my sisters and I running around Elm Chevrolet as kids. My late father, Larry Shanks, worked for Rob's father and then Rob for many years. My father truly loved Rob and Rob was so kind to us when our father passed. I would run in to Rob from time to time, usually at the bank, and he'd always take the time to stop and chat with me, always asking how our mother was or maybe even sharing a story about our dad. He had a great smile and our family will always have a special place for him in our hearts.
