Obituary of Matthew J. Coleman

Please share a memory of Matthew to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Matthew "Matt" Joseph Coleman was a caring husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He unexpectedly left this world on September 11, 2022. Matt was born on February 10, 1984 to Joseph and Kathleen (Crimmer) Coleman in Elmira, New York. He had a fun-filled childhood in Elmira, surrounded by a vast supportive family and a close-knit group of lifelong friends. Matt graduated from Southside High School in 2002 and Mansfield University in 2007 with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Geography with a focus in Mapping Technology. Days after his graduation from Mansfield University, Matt moved to California and started his career in the aerial imaging and mapping industry. Matt met Korinne in late 2007, and they enjoyed many years together before marrying in Hawaii in 2018. A mutual love for travel and life experiences, their time was often split between California and the East Coast. Matt had a strong appreciation for the outdoors and was always happy with Korinne alongside him at the beach. Over the course of his career, Matt traveled extensively within the United States and to faraway places like Africa, Southeast Asia, Australia, Dubai, Japan, and American Samoa. Matt was hard-working, gregarious, and jovial; this was reflected in the passion for his career and meaningful friendships he developed over the years. Matt's antics were legendary and those who knew him have their own stories to tell. Although well known for his sense of humor and escapades, there was another side to him. Matt was compassionate and wanted to help others. He supported nonprofit organizations dedicated to the protection and improvement of communities in need, and immensely enjoyed volunteering his time. His family will remember his generosity and authenticity. He was generous with his time and love. He said what he meant and meant what he said. He was committed to being there for family. Though he was only with us for a short time, we cherish his love and support, and his spirit will always be with us. Matt is survived by his loving family; his wife, Korinne; his parents, Joseph and Kathleen; his brother Andy (Melissa); his nephews Camden and Ryker; his grandmother, Geraldine Meiritz; his aunts and uncles, Joyce Asiello, James (Kathleen) Crimmer, Nancy (Ron) Ackerman, Eileen Curren, Mary Anne Coleman, Kathy Lunduski; and his several cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Phillip and Elizabeth Crimmer and Joseph P. Coleman II. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Friday, September 23, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 6:15 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to: The Mentor Project (https://mentorstg.wpengine.com/donate/) or to the Chemung County Humane Society & SPCA, 2435 State Route 352, Elmira NY 14903.
