Joseph E. Prunier "Pomp" Elmira: Age 81, passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2010, surrounded by the love of his family, in the comfort of his home. Joe was born in Elmira, February 13, 1929 a son of the late Edward H. and Helen F. (Curtin) Prunier. Joe was predeceased by his infant son James Francis Prunier. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Frances Morgan Prunier. Joe is also survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and John Peris, Claire Griffin with Mike Quilty, Mary Ellen Prunier, Patricia and Brian Minchin all of Elmira; son and daughter-in-law Joseph G. and Cynthia Prunier of Elmira; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. John and Suzanne Prunier of Riverside CT, Paul and Eileen Prunier of Elmira; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Anne and Kevin Flemming of Lititz PA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Trudy Morgan of Apalachin NY; grandchildren, Matthew (Sharon), Brian (April) and Jonathan Peris, Christine Ashley, Jennifer Chrisjohn (Justin Blew), Andrew Griffin, Rebecca Daugherty (Matthew Williams), Joseph F., Alicia and Brittney Prunier, Susan Minchin (Geoffrey Roark), Stacey, Stephanie, Kevin and Kyle Minchin, Brian (Lindsy Zimmerman), Joseph P. and Hannah Prunier; 14 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and faithful companion "Cuddles", his maltese. Joe had a long and distinguished career with Chemung Canal Trust Company and retired as an Assistant Vice President with 47 years of service. He was a licensed public accountant for over 30 years. Joe was active in the community in numerous ways. He was a long time communicant at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. With the parish Joe was treasurer of the Lourdes Fund, was a committee member on the group that organized the Sunday night bingo and was team leader of bingo Team #4, long time treasurer of the parish finance committee, and usher for the early Sunday mass for over 30 years. Joe was a member of the West Elmira Fire Department since its inception in 1972 and had served as a fire commissioner for over 20 years. He had also served as a member of the Elmira Town Board for 12 years. Joe was a former president of the Arctic League and served as the League treasurer for 24 years. He was a longtime member of the Elmira Kiwanis Club, a member of the John J. Lee Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Elmira Council 229 Knights of Columbus, and the Elmira Elks Lodge #62. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Streets, on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Joe's memory may be directed to one of the following….The Arctic League, P.O. Box 113, Elmira NY 14902, Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 E. Corning Road, Corning, NY 14830, or a charity of one's choice. Officers and members of the A.O.H. will meet at McInerny Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 1st at 7:00 p.m. to conduct a service for our brother Joe. Signed, Tom Corcoran, President
