Obituary of Theodore John Semesky

Elmira: Age 73, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2022 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Ted was born and raised in Elmira the son of the late John and Genevieve (Gublo) Semesky. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his daughter Sherryl Flatt.
Ted is survived by his wife Shirley Carter Semesky; children, Dennis Eck (Jack Dzurilla) of Glenville NY, Kris Eck (Sarah Cory) of Horseheads, Joetta Semesky of Charlotte NC and Jacob Semesky of Horseheads; sisters, Sr. Arlene Semesky, RSM of Webster NY and Marlene Semesky of Elmira; along with several aunts and cousins.
Ted attended St. Casimir's School and was a 1967 graduate of Notre Dame High School. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the US Air Force. After his military service Ted returned to Elmira and continued his education, graduating from Elmira College. Over the years he worked at various jobs…Thatcher Glass as a mold maker, Southern Tier Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, Finger Lakes Family Network, US Census Bureau. His primary work was with the Chemung County DSS Child Protective Services and as a DSS Support Investigator. Active in the community Ted was a Sisters of Mercy Associate, where he supported Mercy Bridges, Field of Honor and was well known for his home-made breads. He was a part time chaplain at both local hospitals and would take communion to the homebound. A devout Catholic, Ted was a life-time communicant of St. Casimir's Church. He was also a member of the Catholic War Vets and the Elmira Heights American Legion Post #154. Ted was devoted to his faith and his family. He will forever be loved and missed.
Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W Water Street, Elmira, on Friday, July 1, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Ted's Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 604 Park Place, Elmira. A livestream of the Mass will be available through the Facebook page for Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish (https://www.facebook.com/ElmiraCatholic). Military honors will be held outside of the church after the Mass. Interment will take place at Woodlawn National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may remember Ted with a donation to the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, 1437 Blossom Road, Rochester NY 14610, or Notre Dame High School, 1400 Maple Avenue, Elmira NY 14904.
