She will be best remembered for her work as a volunteer, her traveling adventures, and her dedicated years of service as a teacher. Margot was born in Elmira NY, daughter of Alan C. and Harriett Butcher York. She is survived by her children and their families, Eric (Felly Manning) Magnusen of New London, CT; Jeffrey (Teena Christ) Magnusen of Big Flats with his children Derek (Brittany Taylor) and Andrew Magnusen; Catherine (Jerry) Jackson of Las Vegas, NV with their children Joseph Jackson and Alyssa (Andrew) Devereaux; Thomas (Rosemary) Magnusen of Painted Post with their son Michael (Megan) Magnusen; great grandchildren, Darla and Truman Devereaux; sister Catherine Damoth of Bend, OR; special cousin Jenny Dean of Big Flats; former husband Frederick Magnusen of Sarasota, FL, and several other cousins, nieces and nephews. Margot graduated from Elmira College with a Master's Degree in Education. She was a respected third and fourth grade teacher at Big Flats Elementary School for 30 years. Margot enjoyed giving back to her community. She was involved as a volunteer with the Big Flats Historical Society, helping to preserve local history. She gave over 20 years serving in various capacities for the Arnot Odgen Hospital Auxiliary, including her time as president of the Auxiliary, greeting visitors at Arnot Ogden reception desk, and raising money through the Auxiliary Thrift Shop. Margot lived a full life as a wonderful mother, homemaker and teacher. She loved to cook, read, play bridge, travel, and spend time with her cats. Most of all she loved her family and instilled in her children strong values that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. Private family services will be held. Those wishing may remember Margot with a donation to either the Chemung County SPCA, 2435 Route 352, Elmira NY 14903, or Arnot Ogden Auxiliary, 600 Roe Avenue, Elmira NY 14901.
