Obituary of Mark S. Chorney

Horseheads: Age 72, peacefully passed away to be with the Lord on April 13, 2022. Mark was born in Elmira NY a son of the late Walter and Katherine (Procko) Chorney. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law Vincent and Lois Chorney, brother Walter “Skip” Chorney, niece Jessica Chorney Wilson, and grandniece Katherine Chorney. Mark is survived by his son Matthew Chorney; wife of 32 years Lorraine Chorney; brother Robert Chorney; sister-in-law Andrea Chorney; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; along with several nieces, nephews, and friends. Mark attended Thomas A. Edison High School, graduating in 1968. He then faithfully served his country in the United State Marine Corp. from 1969 to 1971. Mark worked at the American Bridge Company for sixteen years, before its closing, then retired from the New York State Department of Correctional Services in 2004. He was a former member of the Southport Correctional Facility Honor Guard, life-member of the Watkins Glen Elks Lodge #1546, member of the Big Flats American Legion Post #1612, AmVets Post #1313 of Elmira and the Horseheads Moose Lodge #1476. Mark took up golf after retiring and enjoyed playing in the Myrtle Beach area, often finding a stray ball or two. He also enjoyed fishing with whomever dared to take him. Mark was always checking it out with his favorite teams: Yankees, Celtics and Giants. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mark on Friday, April 22, 2022, 10:00 a.m., at St. Mary Our Mother Church, 816 West Broad Street, Horseheads. Committal service will follow at St. Mary Our Mother Cemetery with full military honors being accorded.
