Obituary of Teresa A. Pyhtila

Elmira: Age 92, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. A life-long resident of Elmira, Teresa was a daughter of Richard J. and Anna (Newcomb) Connelly. She is predeceased by her husband of 54 years Reino A. Pyhtila, son Richard R. Pyhtila, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Fred and Theresa Maki, Aili Norton, Aune Knuutila , Margarite and Walt Pyhtila. Teresa is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Richard J. and Jan Connelly; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Teresa worked for 42 years for the phone company. First with NY Telephone and then NYNEX, from where she retired. Teresa was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Elmira Does #181, VFW #901 Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion Post #154 Ladies Auxiliary. Teresa was also a life-long communicant of St. Mary's Church. Friends are invited to Teresa's Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, 10:00 a.m., St. Mary's Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira. A livestream of the Mass will be available through the Facebook page for Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish (https://www.facebook.com/ElmiraCatholic). Interment, with committal prayers, will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Meals On Wheels, 409 William Street, Elmira NY 14901.
