Obituary of Julie Bennett McInerny

Please share a memory of Julie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Julie Bennett McInerny of Elmira NY, passed away on Monday January 24, 2022 after an extended illness. She was born in Elmira on February 7, 1962 a daughter of the late Emory and Margaret (Fischer) Bennett. Other than moving with her family while growing up, Julie was a lifelong resident of Elmira. She was a graduate of Notre Dame High School and attended SUNY Oswego. Julie worked in many capacities over the years, gathering more friends wherever she went. Inspired by her mother’s battles with breast cancer, Julie spent over a decade working for the American Cancer Society where she raised money and awareness throughout Chemung County. She left the ACS to become a licensed massage therapist so she could take care of people in a more direct way. When she worked at the Chamber of Commerce her co-workers lovingly referred to her as “The Detonator” a term she embraced. She always put 1000% into everything she did. Julie enjoyed many things throughout her life. She was a fabulous dance mom and sports supporter. Julie loved to create things and tried and succeeded at many craft projects. Her favorite place to visit was the beach. She loved to smell the salty air and work on her tan. She traveled many times throughout her life including to Hawaii and Ireland. She was often described as warm, caring, friendly, fierce, and a dynamo to be reckoned with, but to her family she will always be the loud one with a sarcastic wit and great hugs. Her greatest pride and joy were her children and grandchildren. Grammie was well loved by her daughter Meaghan Rodeck with husband Nick and son Liam; son Joseph with wife Mariah and daughters, Aubriella and Juliana. She was a great sister to Mary Sue Bennett with Marylynn Marino; Cindy Bennett; Karen Anger with husband Tony and their children, Maribeth Robinson, Bryan Anger with wife Britny and daughter Violet, Justin Anger with wife Taylor, Maggie Anger with fiancé Joey Ribando; as well as multiple aunts and cousins. Services will be held at McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Sunday January 30, 2022. Calling hours are from 1:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m., with a Celebration of Life at 3:00 p.m. A livestream of the service will be on YouTube; please subscribe to McInerny Funeral Home.
