Elmira: Age 74, of Elmira, passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was born on November 16, 1947 in Williamsport PA, a son of Carmine S. and Gertrude M. Grieco. Brien was predeceased by his parents, brother Henry F. Grieco, mother-and father-in-law Mary Jane and Glenn H. Niles, brother-in-law Thomas E. Niles and sister-in-law Constance Niles Alford. Brien is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Marguerite L. Grieco and son Dr. Alex Grieco, the light of his life. He is also survived by brothers, Thomas M. Grieco (Beth), Lawrence W. Grieco (Teresa), Carmine A. Grieco; aunt Sarah Grieco; sister-in-law Mary Jane Niles (John Higgins); brothers-in-law, Peter Niles (Nancy), and Kevin Alford; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Brien graduated from St. Joseph High School in Williamsport PA, Mansfield University, and Elmira College. He taught in the Elmira City School District for 33 years, retiring from Booth School. Brien was a member of Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish, volunteering in many capacities at St. Patrick's Church, as well as working at the St. Anthony's Festival for over 30 years. He was a member, and past president, of the West Hill Fire Department, never forgetting the night they tried to save the original Glider Museum on Harris Hill. He later served as a Commissioner of the Fire District. Brien enjoyed swimming at EFA for many years, where he made lasting friendships. He was a member of the White Eagles Club, the Chemung County Historical Society and was always an advocate for children. He played softball, was an avid cyclist and walker, and loved running road races with his son, Alex. Family and friends were everything to Brien and he always treasured their presence in his life. The family greatly appreciates all of the wonderful kindness and care from family, neighbors and friends, as well as his medical providers in Elmira, Horseheads and at Elderwood, Waverly.
