Obituary of Anthony A. Dandrea

Age 82 of Horseheads passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Guthrie Corning Hospital with his family by his side. Anthony was born in Elmira in 1939 to Anthony Sr. and Elizabeth Baccile Dandrea. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his siblings Margaret Rose Carey, Mary Ann Jordan, Nicholas Dandrea, Thomas Dandrea; and brothers and sisters-in-law George Feldmann, John Patrick (Sonja) Farley, and Theresa Striegel. Anthony is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ida Dandrea; son Patrick (Pamela) Dandrea of Horseheads, with Pamela's daughters Cheyenne (Sam) Moore and Shawnee (Joe) Silverwood; daughter Cheryl (Daniel) Tice of Horseheads; brother Michael J. Dandrea of Elmira, sisters Betty Jane Carey of Texas, and Joan (Greg) Canova of Binghamton; brother and sisters-in-law Matthew (Theresa) Farley, Mary Feldmann, and many cherished relatives and friends. Anthony served his country in the United States Army before he married. He graduated from Elmira College and earned a bachelor's degree. He worked for American LaFrance, was a mechanic, managed many restaurants, and ultimately became a corrections officer at Southport Correctional Facility in Elmira. He retired from Southport in 2005 with 19 years of service. Anthony was a huge sports fan and rooted for his favorite teams – the Yankees and the Jets. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 West Water Street, Elmira, on Monday, December 6, 2021, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Our Mother in Horseheads on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at 10:00 AM. Interment with committal prayers and military honors will follow in St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery, Elmira. Those who wish to extend their sympathies may remember Anthony with donations to one of his favorite charities, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
