Obituary of Mary A. Malone

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Avery Malone passed from pancreatic cancer on 11/27/2021 at the age of 73. Mary's father Orman Avery preceded her as did her in-laws Bernie and Mary Malone. Mary is survived by her mother Betty Avery of Florida, husband TJ Malone of Elmira; children Kelley Knight (Dana) Ballston Spa, NY and Michael Malone of Beaverton, OR. Mary was the eldest of Orm and Betty's eight children. Her siblings survive her: John (Cathy) of MA; Joe (Karen) of FL; Kathy of CA; Jim of MD; David (Liz) of NC, Christine (Lynn) of FL and Orman of MD. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Mary graduated from EFA Class of 1966 and Arnot Ogden School of Nursing, Class of 1969. She worked as a R.N. for over 40 years at a variety of locations in a number of different nursing disciplines – mostly at the Arnot where she made fast friends with numerous co-workers and with many patients she had aided in healing. Among those school and work friends were Maryann and Carol with whom she was in regular contact. Mary loved her furry friends – cats and dogs – and her home flower gardens which she tended with a green thumb and loving hands. What she loved most was her family. She honored her father's deathbed request to keep the family together with diligence and loving care. Mary passed peacefully thanks to the wondrous care giving by her sister Chris and her children, Kelley and Michael. CareFirst provided many services without which her death would have been much more difficult. Nurse Dean's care and knowledge were inspiring and most appreciated. Memorial contributions may be made to CareFirst, 3805 Meads Creek Rd, Painted Post, NY 14870 or Chemung County SPCA, 2435 Route 352, Elmira, NY 14903 or Horseheads Food Pantry, 2943 Westinghouse Rd., Elmira, NY 14845, or your favorite charity.
