Obituary of Claire M. Castellino

Please share a memory of Claire to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Claire Marie Castellino passed away on October 4, 2021, at the Chemung County Nursing Facility in Elmira, New York. Predeceased by her parents, Joseph Castellino and Rose (Tress) Castellino, her sister, Madeline Castellino, her brother, Samuel J. Castellino, and sister-in-law, Katherine (Lagonegro). She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Claire (Radames) Perez, Joseph Castellino, William (Patricia) Castellino, Roseanne Bravman (Steve), Samuel D. Castellino, and by three great-nephews. Claire was born on November 13, 1923, in Elmira, New York. After finishing St. Cecilia's Grammar School, she graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 1942. Claire spent most of her working life at Sears, Roebuck, and Co., starting out when the store opened as the secretary to the store manager and continuing in other clerical posts when Sears moved to the Arnot Mall. She received many a five-year pin from Sears and made several friends at the store. When she retired, she had worked thirty-five years for Sears. Claire was very hardworking and respected for her knowledge and kindness. Claire spent several vacations in Florida visiting her Uncle Joe (Tress) and Aunt Lucy during the 1950s and 60s, often traveling by train, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Claire was an avid fan of being outdoors; from the first signs of spring through the autumn, she would be out walking with her dog (she had many). She enjoyed sitting and visiting with family and neighbors, first at 801 Lake Street and later at her Underwood Avenue home. Visits always included a cup of coffee and dessert. The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the Fourth Floor Staff and all the Chemung County Nursing Facility caregivers. Claire continually expressed gratitude for their kindness, care, and many cups of coffee. She felt at home there.
