Horseheads - Lindy (Murray) Van Brunt, 77, of Horseheads, NY, passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2021, peacefully at her home. Lindy was born on April 5, 1944 in Poughkeepsie, NY, to Leonard Joseph Murray and Mary Ellen (Cain) Murray. She was predeceased by her parents and dear nephew Sean P. Murray. Lindy graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in 1964 and married Richard S. Van Brunt on August 6, 1966 at St. Cecelia's Church in Elmira, NY. Lindy was a lifelong volunteer in her parish and community. She was considerably active and served as a Board member at St. Joseph's Hospital and The American Cancer Society. Lindy traveled all over the world but her favorite place to be was at Keuka Lake with her family. Lindy is survived by her husband of 55 years, Dick, children Rick (Jennifer) Van Brunt of South Carolina; Mike (Jackie) Van Brunt of Horseheads and Peter Van Brunt of Kansas. The highlight of Lindy's life were her eight grandchildren. Meme is survived by Nicholas (Kayla Chevalier), Jillian, Leonard, Sarah, Kennedy, Nathan, Anna, and Kate Van Brunt. Lindy is also survived by her brother, Tom (Peg) Murray of Elmira, NY, sister, Kit (Steve) Flanagan of Trumbull, CT, as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great- nephews. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Monday, July 19, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, St. Patrick's Church, 204 Park Place, Elmira at 10:00 a.m. A livestream of the Mass will be available through the Facebook page for Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish (https://www.facebook.com/ElmiraCatholic). Interment, with committal prayers will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Cancer Society, 13 Beech Street, Johnson City NY 13790 or The Alzheimer's Association, 435 E. Henrietta Road, Rochester NY 14620. Lindy's family would like to share their deepest appreciation for all of her caregivers, especially Dayle Steves-Wright of Bethany, Regina of Visiting Angels, and our own personal angel, Susie Driscoll.
