Obituary of Jeremiah William Groth

Elmira: Age 67, passed away at his home on Sunday, February 28, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born and raised in Olean NY a son of the late Herman and Dolores (Toohey) Groth. He is also predeceased by father-in-law and mother-in-law George M. and Dorothy Wade Kane; brother-in-law Michael G. Kane. Jerry is survived by his wife of 38 years Colleen Kane Groth; sons, Brian J. Groth with wife Lauren and daughters, Gwendolyn and Bridget; Stephen T. Groth with Kyle Cundy; all of Elmira; siblings, Leslie (Jeffrey) Voorhees of Olean, Richard (Pamela) Groth of Olean, Tracey (Dean Holt) Groth of Myrtle Beach SC, Robert (Julie) Groth of Olean, John (Terry) Groth of Venice FL; sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-law, Linda Lyon of Mechanicsburg PA, Patricia (John) Dobranski of Elmira, Daniel (Cheryl) Kane of Elmira, John (Connie) Kane of Spring Hill FL; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. A graduate of Arnot Ogden School of Nursing, Jerry had a 42-year career at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was a registered nurse in the Neonatal Unit for 34 years, with the last part of his career teaching life saving skills at the Arnot, focusing on adult cardiac life support. Jerry enjoyed golf, was an avid reader, and loved music – especially 70's rock and roll. A wonderful husband, father and grandfather Jerry will be forever loved and missed. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, March 4, 2021, 10:30 a.m., St. Patrick's Church, 604 Park Place, Elmira. A livestream of the Mass will be available through the Facebook page for Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish (https://www.facebook.com/ElmiraCatholic). Interment, with committal prayers, will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Those wishing may remember Jerry with a donation to the Chemung County SPCA, 2435 Route 352, Elmira NY 14903. Covid protocol will be followed at the funeral home and the church.
