Obituary of Richard Palmer Cox

84 years old, resident of Elmira, NY passed away in the afternoon on December 9, 2020 after a long rich life. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Helen Cox; first wife, Judy; second wife, Ann Brown Cox; daughter, Julie Wheeler Hoyt; brother, James Cox; sister-in-law, Jean Ann Cox; and lifelong friends, Dan 'Doc' Fisher, Chuck Cassidy, and John O'Heron. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Cox Willis Stambro (Jon) and her children, Zachary Cox (Lauren), Madeline Grace Beck (Tyler), Franchesca Collins (Drew), and Winston Willis (Amber); stepdaughter, Christine Wozniak (Ignatius); stepsons, Michael Wheeler (Gale), Jeffrey Wheeler (Lori), and David Wheeler; son-in-law, William Hoyt; brothers, John Cox and William "Bill" Cox (Mary); brother-in-law, John "Jack" Brown; the Wheeler step-grandchildren, Jeri Ann, Patrick, Kristen, Amber Wheeler Cloke (Andrew), Brittany, Eric, Melissa, Mark, Chadd, Alec, Matthew, and Anthony; 17 great grandchildren; 1 nephew; 4 nieces; and special friend, Teresa Considine. Dick was a Marine at the Citadel which provided him the skills to raise six children. He was an alumnus of Ithaca College. He was a life-long employee and retiree of Emerson Power Transmission Corp (Morse Chain Company). He was a beloved spouse, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, loving companion, dear friend. Rich was an avid reader, great conversationalist, golfer, boater, birdwatcher. He loved the arts and going to Clemens Center, breakfast with his friends at Cozy Corner, and traveling. He was admired and loved by so many. Richard will be privately interred at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made in Dick's memory to Artic League (249 W Clinton St, Elmira, NY 14901), Food Bank of the Southern Tier (388 Upper Oakwood Ave, Elmira, NY 14903), or Smile Train at www.smiletrain.org.
