Obituary of Sophia Hawley

Sophia Hawley Elmira: Age 89, went to be an angel of God on Sunday, April 7, 2013. Sophia was born July 30, 1923, a daughter of Valentine and Louise (Kukulka) Dobek. She is predeceased by her husband Michael Hawley, Jr., brothers and sisters-in-law, Louis Dobek, Walter and Theresa Dobek, Pauline Dobek, sisters and brother-in-law, Genevieve and Bernard Wholeben, Julia Dobek. Sophia is survived by her children, Michael A. Hawley, III and wife Doris, Fayetteville NC, Ronald S. Hawley and wife JoEllen, Elmira, Charlene A. Craven and husband Philip, Horseheads, Michelle P. Chapman and fiancé Tom Walushka, Millerton PA, Anita L. Mawhir, Elmira Heights; brother Stanley Dobek, Horseheads; thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Sophia was a cook at Mustico's Reastaurant for over 15 years. In her own kitchen her specialties were pierogies, pigs in a blanket, homemade breads and pies. Sophia liked to do puzzles, was an avid reader and enjoyed playing rummy….by her rules. She was a life time communicant of St. Casimir's Church. Friends are invited to attend Sophia's Mass of Christian Burial at St. Casimir's Church on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Interment, with committal prayers, will follow at Woodlawn National Cemetery.
