Elmira: Age 83, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2012 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center with his loving family at his side. Bob was born in Elmira on March 27 1928, to the late Leonard and Agnes (Falsey) Sullivan. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Eleanor "Nora" (Shea) Sullivan; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo and Daniel Johnson of Pittsburgh; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Maureen Sullivan of Westboro MA, Thomas Sullivan of Elmira, Brother Jerome Sullivan of LaSalle Institute in Troy NY, Timothy and Stephanie Sullivan of Tully NY; daughter and son-in-law, Molly and Mark Venditti of Williamsville NY; grandchildren, Amy, Eileen, Tom and Tim Johnson, Peter, Steven and Megan Sullivan, Courtney Sullivan, Emilie and Brianna Sullivan, Susan, Mark and Elizabeth Venditti, brother William Richard Sullivan of Florida; sister Kathleen Sullivan Burger of Big Flats; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Mary and Joe Aini of Hornell and Theresa Shea of Elmira. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob was predeceased by siblings and their spouses, Mary Agnes Sullivan (John) Guthrie, Joseph (Cathleen) Sullivan, Paul (Peggy) Sullivan, Polly Sullivan (Walter) Ervin, Philip (Mary Ann) Sullivan, Donald Burger and Tom Shea. Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Army service in the Korean War as a Sergeant with the 40th infantry. His military awards include the Army of Occupation Medal - Japan, Korean Service Medal Bronze Service Stars and the United Nations Service Medal. While in the military Bob served with his life long friend John Palladino. Bob retired as manager of the plumbing and heating department at Sears & Roebuck after 36 years of service. Wanting to keep active, Bob went on to work for another 16 years for Chemung County BOCES. A devout Catholic, Bob was a long time communicant of St. Patrick's Church, a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society and a faithful participant of the Divine Mercy Chapel at St. Casimir's Church. He was proud of his Irish heritage and was a member of the Msgr. John J. Lee Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Bob was especially proud of his family and cherished time spent with them.
Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Streets, on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held there on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church. Committal prayers and interment, with military honors, will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Donations in Bob's memory may be directed to St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation, 555 St. Joseph's Blvd., Elmira NY 14901.
Officers and members of the Elmira A.O.H. will meet at McInerny Funeral Home on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. to conduct a memorial service for our brother Bob.
