Lucy A. Galvin
Elmira: Age 83, died Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at her home, surrounded by her loving family, following a short illness. A lifelong resident of Elmira, born Lucy Ann Liotino on March 28, 1929 to Lorenzo and Maria (Mazzaraco) Liotino, she was graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 1946 and married John Mark Galvin in 1953. He predeceased her April 12, 1993. Lucy served several years as Deputy City Clerk for the City of Elmira before working for the Elmira Police Department, retiring in 1991. She was a communicant of St. Anthony's/St. Patrick's. Lucy enjoyed her membership in "The Club" that included Nata and Tony Brunozzi, Shirley and Carl Hillman, Betty and Mel Miller, Mary Fran and Dick Smith, and Rose and Don Vesneske. Surviving Lucy are her four sons, Mark (Margaret), Nampa, ID; Michael (Katy), Elmira; John (Nancy), Elmira; James (Karla), Rockford, MI; brothers, Vito (Sylvia) Liotino, Hilton, NY, Peter (Mary Lou) Liotino, Myrtle Beach, SC; sister Ann Cantando, Elmira; brother-in-law Chuck Grady, Elmira; 12 grandchildren Jay (Rachel), Angela (Mike) and Susan; Kelly (Ryan), Molly, Emily and Hannah; Julie and Johnny (and their mother Jane); Megan, Lucas and Nessa; two great grandchildren Isaiah and Leanora; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Lucy was predeceased by sister-in-law Mary Ann Grady and brother-in-law Nick Cantando.
Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Sts., on Saturday, April 7, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, April 9, 2012 at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church. Interment will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. In "Lu" of flowers memorial donations may be made to Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 E. Corning Road, Corning, NY 14830. The family would like to thank Barb Hillman for the wonderful care she gave their mother for the past two years, and Tina and Gary Lido for always being there.
