Lawrence L. Higgins "Larry" - "Big Red" Pine City: Age 78, passed away peacefully at his daughter and son-in-law's home on Tuesday, July 17, 2012. Larry was born December 22, 1933, son of Carroll Higgins and Carro Higgins Webber. He is predeceased by his wife Shirley (Nagle) Higgins. Larry is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Jean L. and Ernest Germano, Pine City; Robyn M. and Jesse Richardson, Montana; grandchildren, Christopher Germano, Marie (Chad) Payne, Matthew Germano, Michael Camporeale; great-grandchildren, Brody and Miles; step mother Marjorie Higgins of Bangor ME; sisters and brother-in-law, Carol Higgins, Bangor ME, Jackie and Roy McFarland, of Bar Harbor ME. Larry was a U S Marine Corps veteran, serving his country during the Korean War. After his military service he moved to Southern California, where he raised his family. Larry was a Letter Carrier with the U S Postal Service for 45 years. He moved to Pine City in November 2008 to be with his family. Larry was an avid California Angel's baseball fan, and while living in California loved to go to "Blackie's By the Sea", a popular gathering place in Newport Beach. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Larry was also an avid gardener and reader. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Streets, on Thursday, July 19, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Further services and burial will be handled through Jordan-Fernald Funeral Chapel in Mount Desert ME. Larry's family extends their deep gratitude to Southern Tier Hospice, for the compassionate care given to Larry. In lieu of flowers those wishing may remember him with a donation to Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 E. Corning Road, Corning NY 14830, or a charity of one's choice.
