Passed away Sunday, October 14, 2018. Born in Sayre, PA on August 6, 1936 the daughter of the late James H. and Teresa C. Hoag and sister to the late Col. James H. Hoag, Jr. Mary Lou was lovingly married for 50 years to the late Carlos George Adams. She is survived by her children, Brian Adams of Elmira, Todd (Nancy) Adams of State College, PA, and Elizabeth Adams of NC; and 6 grandchildren. She graduated from Sayre High School in 1954, then went on to graduate from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in Elmira in 1959. She went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from the University of Alabama with a B.S. in Healthcare and then entered the U.S. Air Force where she attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant, before returning to Sayre where she met her husband, George. She spent most of her life as a nurse (RN), working as the Director of Nursing at the Bradford County Manor in Troy Pa, Darway Nursing Home in Forksville PA, before finally retiring from the Sayre House Nursing Home in Sayre PA in 1999. Mary Lou was an avid antiques collector and dealer for a large portion of her life. She and her husband traveled the country roads all over the Northeast, looking to track down the next ever elusive piece for her collection or working various antique shows. They both loved meeting new people and establishing friendships all over New York and Pennsylvania. She had even started her own business "Adams Uptown Country" in Ulster, PA where she sold and repaired antiques and furniture for many years. At her request there will be no services. A private interment will be held in the Bath National Cemetery where she will be buried next to her husband, George. There will be a memorial gathering of family and friends at a time and place to be named in the near future. The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude and pride with the care, treatment, and dignity provided by the staff of the Woodbrook Assisted Living Residence in Elmira, where Mary Lou resided for the last 5 years. She truly loved the staff and people she became close friends with over those years, especially her dearest friend, Marianne Wichtowski. We would also like to thank Dorene Johnson for her support and care for our mother throughout these last few years. Those wishing to make donations in memory of Mary Lou may do so to the Debra Adams Fund c/o Holy Family Schools Attn: Joseph Kosmicki, 421 Fulton St, Elmira, NY, 14904.
