Age 79 of Elmira passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 15, 2018. Bill was born in Elmira, a son of the late William T. McCann and Irene McCann Cullen. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years Joan Hintz McCann. Bill was also predeceased by brother James F. McCann, brother-in-law Robert Dean and sister-in-law Mary Jurusik. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne McCann-Sullivan and Michael Sullivan of Elmira with their children Rowan B., Kieran M. and Aislinn E. Sullivan; sister Helen Dean of Elmira; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Anne and Robert Albright of North Carolina, John Hintz of Elmira Heights, Jean and P. J. D'Abbracci of Penn Yan, Joyce McCann, Lynn Troy and Donald Jurusik all of Elmira; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved basset hound Freckles. Bill was a U.S. Army veteran. His greatest joy was the time he was able to spend with his beloved grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St. Elmira, on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Ss. Peter and Paul Church on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Military honors will be accorded outside of church after the Funeral Mass. Private interment will take place at Woodlawn National Cemetery. Those wishing may remember Bill with a donation to the Arctic League, PO Box 113, Elmira NY 14902.
