To the family and loved ones of Maranatha,
Please accept my heartfelt condolences for your loss. Any words that I could say would not be enough. Please take comfort in the beautiful promise that God gives in Revelation 21:4: "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, nether will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." God promises an earthly resurrection. Please during this difficult time remember that our loves ones are in God's memory.
Sincerely,
Cindy

I was fortunate to know and work with Maran at Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket RI. I was a physician colleague in awe of her - she, this beautiful, strong, confident, always brilliantly dressed woman with just enough of a foul mouth to keep order. Goals! Which will never be realized of course because no one can do it quite like Maran. Her family has lost a treasure, and I weep for you. Thank you for sharing this beautiful obituary. I do believe that her energy will guide her children throughout their lives.

I am so sorry for your loss. Although I never met Dr. Lougheed personally, I spoke with her on the phone several times regarding my daughter. She understood my daughters needs and was very compassionate toward her. She made her feel comfortable talking to her and reassuring her was second nature to Dr. Lougheed. My daughter and I are heartbroken by this. She was phenomenal in her position and really cared for her patients, took whatever time they needed with them. This is truly a loss for the OB/GYN community in our area. Again, she will be missed by many.

I knew Maran when I was a medical student at Monmouth. She and her coresident Angela were always so supportive of us as medical students and taught us not just to be good but how to work hard and advocate for our patients. I really admired how Maran was such a good doctor and was still such a cool person to hang out with! She was one of the major influences for me to finally become an OBGYN myself. She was a beautiful person inside and out. My deepest condolences to her family and loved ones.

I was referred to see her in the fall of 2015. She was so kind and down to earth explaining processes and when I had a complication and needed surgery she came to see me to make sure I was ok. When meeting her you just know what kind of person she was. And leaving her you knew what to expect. In fact I was just thinking of her a few weeks ago and should have called her office. I guess whenever I have a feeling I should call anyone, just do it because you never know if you will see that person again. May god and Marantha look down on her family and give them the strength they need to get through this difficult time.

“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of the intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the beauty in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that one life has breathed easier because you lived here. This is to have succeeded.”
One of my favorite quotes and a life goal. She already nailed it at 39. Sorry to lose her, but absolutely elated to have known and worked beside her.

Dr.Lougheed was an amazing woman. I had the pleasure meeting her when she first started working for Guthrie oby/gyn in the Big Flats office. She was always very friendly and kind to everyone she came in contact with. Our patients absolutely loved and adored her.
I also had the pleasure of being one of her patients. She was always easy to talk to and would always take the time to listen to your concerns and never made you feel as if she was in a rush to move on to the next person. She took awesome care of me while in her care.
I truly enjoyed working with her. Whenever she came in to work she would always take a minute to either stop and sit down at my desk to say hello and see how I was doing. If she was in a hurry she would always take the time to make sure she said a quick hello. Everyone she worked with in the Big Flats office loved and admired her for her friendliness and compassion for her patients and coworkers. When I changed jobs and moved to the first floor she would always take a minute to say a quick hello.
I added her name in memory to the beam we just signed for the new Guthrie Clinic that is being built next to the Corning Hospital so she will always be a part of our new building as she should have been.
I will miss her terribly and will never forgot her beautiful smiling face and loving personality.

My husband and I were pregnant with our last baby who is now a year old. She knew my past with my other 2 deliveries and she took that into consideration. I have never seen a doctor more caring and loving as her. Every time I had questions she answered them no matter how silly they were. When I went into labor she was right by my side talking me through it all. When our son was delivered by her she made sure I was ok and stable especially after my past. I have a special story of Dr. Lougheed, only having met her once in the beginning of July for the very first time, my 5 year old daughter and I were there to get a check up on my second child to be, my daughter was taking selfies on my phone while we listened to the baby's heartbeat. I remember Dr. Lougheed taking special time to include my daughter and saying to her at one point "if you're going to get me in a photo I have to see it and make sure i look good" and we laughed. My daughter was doing a curled tongue in most of the photos and the doctor showed her that she could do a very special "clover tongue" that she mastered when she was younger. The first time I have ever seen that and it just stuck in my memory, I was very sad to hear that I will never get the pleasure of being her patient again and we are praying for the family and children after such a tragedy. My condolences go out to you all!
