Age 90, passed away peacefully in Rochester NY on Wednesday, October 18, 2017. Dorothy was born in Elmira, daughter of Harry and Jessie (Mitchell) Hardy. She was predeceased by her husband Jack Terris in 2006, brother Richard Hardy, and sister Shirley Dickinson. Dorothy is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Wendy S. and Larry Sargent of Wellsburg; daughter Robin E. Terris of Rochester; son and daughter-in-law, John B., Jr. "Jack" and Karen Terris of Harpursville NY; grandchildren, Ashley Sargent, Rachel Terris, Matt (Jessica) Terris and Mike (Mellissa) Terris; great grandchildren, Eden Robinson and Regan Terris; several nieces and nephews; beloved canine companion Benji. Dorothy was a staunch Democrat. She was a longtime Elmira City Clerk. Dorothy loved to read and do word puzzles. She loved game nights and Dorothy was a Scattergories champ. She enjoyed staying home and puttering around her house. Dorothy loved her family and her beloved Benji. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St. Elmira, on Sunday, October 22, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery on Monday, October 23, 2017 at 2:45 p.m. Those wishing may remember Dorothy with a donation to the Chemung County SPCA, Route 352, Elmira NY 14905 or the Falck Cancer Center, 600 Roe Ave., Elmira NY 14905.
