Obituary of Brother Antonio Bravo Lara

Brother Antonio Bravo Lara, 63, a monk of Mount Saviour Monastery, Elmira, NY, died on August 30, 2023, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira. Born in Veracruz, Mexico, the son of Petra Lara and Aristeo Bravo, Brother Antonio was educated in Veracruz and studied theology at the San Jose Seminary. After school he entered monastic life and became a solemnly professed monk of Christ in the Desert Monastery in New Mexico. On December 12, 2015, the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, he transferred his vow of stability and became a member of the Mount Saviour community.

He is survived by his sister, Maria; three brothers, Celestino, Hugo and Vicente; nieces, Guadalupe, Nora, Dioce and Lorena; nephew Israel (Vicky); grandniece Lucero (Angel), and his brother monks of Mount Saviour Monastery.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Brother Antonio will be celebrated at 9:00 am on Saturday, 9 September 2023 at Mount Saviour Monastery with interment in the monk’s cemetery following the service. Refreshments will be available after the ceremonies in the lounge at Saint Joseph’s Guesthouse.
