Elmira: Age 88, passed away after brief illness on July 20, 2023, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center with his family by his side. Jacob was born in Hilldale, PA, son of Jacob and Sophie Urban Dvornicky. Jacob is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Felicia T. Dvornicky, daughters and sons- in-law, Corinne and Dave Shughrou of Richland, WA, Anita Dvornicky of Watkins Glen, NY, and Janice and Richard Moyer of Hector, NY; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; 2 brothers.

Jake was a teacher with the Elmira City School District for 35 years. He loved to travel around the world, study languages and doing art. He also enjoyed watching sports with his cat Dobby- particularly the Yankees & Mets. Jake served in the U.S Army from 1958-1961.

Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home,502 W. Water St., Elmira on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A funeral service at St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church, 210 Franklin St., Elmira, on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Interment, with committal prayers and military honors, will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Those wishing may honor Jacob with a donation in his name to Mercy Ships. www.mercyships.org
