Obituary of Mary A. Hughes

Age 68, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 20, 2018 after an extended illness. Mary was born in Waverly NY, daughter of the late Robert F. and Helen (Derrig) Usselman. She was predeceased by her sister Eileen F. Usselman and brother-in-law Robert Barlow. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 40 years John F. Hughes; children and their families, Kenneth and Nita Whitman of Kettering OH with children Callie and Owen; Kari and Roger Finch of Big Flats with children Morgan, Erika and Matthew; Patrick and Tiffany Hughes of Elmira with son Nolan; Branden Hughes of Chemung with fiancée Rosemary Baker and his children Aidan and Sophia; siblings, Robert II (Rita) Usselman of Minnesota, Barbara Barlow of Virginia, Stephen (Cody) Usselman of Elmira, Martin Usselman of Virginia, Rita (Calvin) Wooster of Pennsylvania, Theresa (Timothy) Hughes of Pine City; several nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Mary ran her own beauty shop for many years. She had a very loyal cliental. After she decided to retire she would still have people showing up for Mary to do their hair. She loved to paint and was a self-taught landscape artist. Mary and John were foster parents for over 15 years. Mary's greatest joy was spending time with her family. Friends and family are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira, on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. At a later date Mary will be laid to rest at Woodlawn National Cemetery. Those wishing may remember Mary with a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
