"Dee" Age 82, of Elmira, NY peacefully passed away at her home on Thursday, June 8, 2017, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Catherine and Philip Weingart with sons, Eric, Jack, Tyler, and Timothy; sons and daughters-in-law, Patrick and Cyndee Hayes with sons, Michael (Lisa), Matthew (Pandora), John (Brianne); Dennis and Dee Hayes with sons, Ajax, Orion, Pericles, and Phineus; sisters-in-law, Molly Quigley Cusick and Diane Cusick; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Raymond and Joyce Hayes; great-grandchildren Michael and Evan Hayes; stepdaughter Lolly (Dan) Stowell and family; along with loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Dr. William J. Cusick and Doris (Conboy); husband John "Jack" Hayes; husband John "Joker" Overton; infant son Michael; and her beloved brothers, Francis "Bud", William, and Daniel Cusick. Dee was born June 5, 1935 in Elmira, NY. She proudly remained an Elmira Southside girl her entire life. She is a graduate of Southside High School and Elmira College. Dee worked as a social worker for Catholic Charities and then was an English teacher at Ernie Davis Middle School. She was a member of the Ladies Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and a life time communicant of St. Mary's Church. In retirement Dee found great joy in spending time with her family and friends, volunteering throughout Elmira, and relaxing at her cottage on Cayuga Lake. Dee has shown her family fortitude and grace at all times. She was always compassionate towards others. She lived, laughed, and loved wholly. Her life lessons will live on through her children and grandchildren. The family will receive friends at McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2017. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Dee's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, St. Mary's Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may kindly consider donating to the March of Dimes, Central NY, 329 N. Salina Street, Suite 304, Syracuse NY 13203 or Chemung ARC, 711 Sullivan Street, Elmira NY 14901. Officers and member of the Ladies Division of the A.O.H. will meet at McInerny Funeral Home, on Tuesday, June 13th, 7:00 p.m. to conduct a service for our sister, Dee. Signed, Beth Vetter, President
