Obituary of Joseph C. Buck

Joseph C. Buck Elmira: Age 89, passed away peacefully in his sleep, Monday, November 19, 2012. Joe was born June 27, 1923, a son of Joseph W. and Marjorie (Eldredge) Buck. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Martha Taylor Buck; children, Louise E. Buck, Ithaca and Charles T. Buck, Norfolk VA; grandchildren, Daniel E. and Andrew B. Hart; brother George W. Buck, Bellerose NY and sister Cornelia B. Key, Lampasas TX. Joe served as an Army officer in Europe during World War II. Thereafter he graduated from Princeton University and Cornell Law School. Joe began practice with his father's law firm in 1951 and continued with that firm, and its successors, currently Buck, Danaher, Ryan & McGlenn, until his retirement in 2012. Civic minded he served on boards of several area organizations including the Steele Memorial Library, County Commission on Human Relations, Elmira Little Theatre, County Planning Commission, Arnot Ogden Medical Center Foundation, and Bethany Nursing Home. Joe also was on the Committee on Professional Standards, Third Judicial Department of NYS. His recreational activities included sailing on Keuka Lake, where he was a member of the Keuka Yacht Club, and hiking the trails and mountains of the Adirondacks and White Mountains. Joe climbed all 46 peaks over 4,000 feet in the Adirondacks. He and Martha enjoyed attending the opera, usually regional companies and occasionally the Metropolitan in NYC. Sailing on Keuka Lake and attending summer courses at Cornell University were their primary vacations for the past several years. A Memorial Service will be held at The Park Church, on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. A reception will follow in Beecher Hall.
