Obituary of Mary Elizabeth McGlenn

Age 96, peacefully left this life on December 11, 2014. Mary Elizabeth was born on June 14, 1918, at Elmira, NY, a daughter of the late Theodore and Mary (Kane) Doran. She was also predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Robert C. McGlenn, sister Irene Hurley, and brothers, Robert and John (her twin) Doran. She is survived by her children, son John R. (Barbara) McGlenn of Elmira, NY with children Timothy J. McGlenn, Maureen E. McGlenn, and Robert A. McGlenn, daughter Kathleen M. (William) Harris of Amherst, NY with children Jonathan M. (Christi) Harris, Anna H. (David) Collins, and Matthew W. (Teresa) Harris, and son Thomas D. McGlenn of Burlington, VT with children Moriah C. McGlenn and John T. McGlenn. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren. Mary Elizabeth was a life-long communicant of Christ the Redeemer Parish (St. Charles Borromeo Church) and a past member of its Altar and Rosary Society. She was a graduate of Thomas A. Edison High School. In her early years, she was a bookkeeper. All who knew her will attest to her kind, caring, unselfish, and gentle nature whose faith and family were her passions. There will be no calling hours. A private burial service will be conducted at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery at the convenience of the family. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Elmira Heights, NY on Monday, December 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Those wishing to make donation in Mary Elizabeth's memory may contribute to Christ the Redeemer Parish, 1012 Davis Street, Elmira, NY 14901, a place of worship of choice, or the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, 388 Upper Oakwood Avenue, Elmira, NY 14903. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Chemung County Nursing Facility for their kind and compassionate care of Mary Elizabeth during the final months of her life.
