Obituary of Helena Spaulding

Mrs. N. Helena Spaulding passed away Thursday, November 5, 2014 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Lakeland, FL following a short illness. Helena was born in Elmira, New York May 1, 1915 to Franklin Amos and Nellie Baker Squires. She spent much of her life in Fulton, NY and moved with her husband to Lakeland, FL in the 1970's after retirement. She was married to Charles F. Spaulding in Elmira, NY on December 24, 1933. Together, they owned and operated Matott's Bakery in Oswego, NY. Charles preceded her in death in 1982. Helena's three sisters also preceded her in death: Wilma Ludwig and Ethel Padgett, Elmira, NY; and Dorothy Hollenbeck, Hornell, NY, as well as two half-sisters and one step sister. She is survived by four children: Helena M. Keller (Jerome), Green Lane, PA; Franklin Charles Spaulding, Fulton, NY; Thomas E. Spaulding, Fulton, NY; and Nancy A. Christy (Doug), Lakeland, FL. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held in Elmira, NY on Friday, Nov. 14 at Trinity Episcopal Church. Interment will follow the service at Woodlawn Cemetery.
